Announced commitment to bring its cancellation practices in line with EU consumer rules

On 1 July 2022, the European Commission announced that it has concluded its negotiations with Amazon regarding the company’s subscription cancellation practices. Amazon committed to changing its cancellation practices to comply with the Directive on Unfair commercial practices. In particular, Amazon will enable consumers from the EU and EEA to unsubscribe from Amazon Prime easier using only one “cancel button”. The Commission stated that to cancel their subscription, consumers had previously to go through several pages with “distracting information” and “unclear button labels”, which deterred them from cancelling their subscription.
