China: Consultation opened for the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone artificial intelligence industry promotion regulation

On 14 July 2021, the public consultation for the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone artificial intelligence industry promotion regulation by the Shenzhen municipal people's congress was opened. It is intended to promote the development of the artificial intelligence industry in Shenzhen by shortening the approval process for artificial intelligence products. Furthermore, a risk management system for artificial intelligence products and services that are in development is established and pilot tests for low-risk artificial intelligence products are proposed. Moreover, funds for AI companies are being provided, talent training programs in the AI industry are supported financially and new R&D institutions are set up. Moreover, a public patent pool shall be established for artificial intelligence in order to strengthen intellectual property rights. In order to reduce development costs for companies, it is aimed to introduce open-source platforms as well as uniform standards to ensure data interoperability. The public consultation will be open until 30 July 2021.
