Announced EDPB coordinated enforcement framework on right to erasure

On 10 October 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced the launch of its fourth coordinated enforcement action, focusing on the implementation of the right to erasure, commonly known as the "right to be forgotten". The initiative, scheduled to commence during the first half of 2025, invites Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) to participate on a voluntary basis in the evaluation and comparison of the processes established by controllers for compliance with Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The objective of the initiative is to identify the most significant compliance issues and to highlight the most effective practices, thereby building on the EDPB's strategy to enhance enforcement and cooperation among DPAs through its Coordinated Enforcement Framework, which was established in October 2020.
