Announced international capacity-building tool to combat ransomware

On 10 November 2022, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in partnership with the US Department of State and the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, announced a joint project to develop a capacity-building tool with the aim of preventing ransomware attacks. The project was developed as part of the Second International Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI) Summit, held from 31 October 2022 to 1 November 2022 in Washington DC. The tool will feature case studies on public-private partnerships that have been used to counter ransomware and provide guidance to countries looking to implement similar partnerships. The US and Spain will partner with the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise to deliver the tool and issue guidance to entities on measures to be implemented to increase the cyber security of their systems.
