Announced Council of Europe Convention on Artificial Intelligence

On 30 June 2022, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe requested the Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI), the successor of the Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI), to elaborate a legally binding international instrument, a Convention on Artificial Intelligence (AI), that would incorporate the Council of Europe human rights standards. The aim of the Convention would be to define the "AI subject", outline legal protections and safeguards for AI subjects and create criteria for determining high-risk and those posing unacceptable risks.
