On 29 July 2022, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) published its criteria for selecting cross-border cases of “strategic importance” to allow strategic enforcement cooperation between EU Data Protection Authorities. The strategic cases can be proposed by any European Supervisory Authority whenever a case overlaps with other areas of law, affects a large number of data subjects in more than one Member State, involves a large number of complaints in several Member State, poses a high risk under the GDPR or a structural or recurrent problem in the several Member States.
