On 21 November 2022, the public consultation closes on the Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR), following the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) decision to extend the comment period from 21 October 2022. In particular, the FTC focused on whether the Commission should adopt new rules governing the collection, compilation, protection, use, analysis, and retention of consumer data by businesses. The ANPR consultation sought comments on the following topics: harms to consumers and children, costs and benefits of regulation, regulation of automated systems, algorithmic discrimination, consumer consent, transparency requirements for companies, and enforcement.
