On 6 July 2022, the Transport Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality adopted the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Intelligent Connected Vehicle Management Regulations, specifying the conditions under which driverless cars can be driven within the Municipality. The Regulations prescribe the locations within Shenzhen where driverless cars can be used or tested. Further, they prescribe that driverless cars can only be driven after they have met safety standards and been listed in the product catalogue. The Regulations also regulate the automatic driving process itself, requiring an indicator light to be switched on during automatic driving and specifying the conditions under which drivers must take over from the automatic driving process. Finally, the Regulations lay out the division of responsibility in car accidents. The Regulations will be implemented on 1 August 2022.
