On 26 July 2022, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) issued a notice of proposal not to make a market investigation reference based on its preliminary findings from its music and streaming market study. The CMA can issue a recommendation for a market investigation reference if it finds market features that negatively impact competition or consumers. In its update paper on the music and streaming market study, the CMA noted that currently three companies have a dominant position in the market, but it doesn’t raise competition concerns and is not harming consumers or artists. The stakeholders are invited to submit their comments on the CMA's decision not to pursue a market investigation until 19 August 2022.
