Consultation closed on Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI policy paper

On 26 September 2022, the UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport closed the public consultation on its policy paper on Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI. The policy paper proposes a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI based on a set of cross-sectoral principles designed to address the specific characteristics of AI (context-specific, pro-innovation, risk-based, coherent, proportionate and adaptable). In addition, the proposed approach aims to encourage investment, boost public confidence and increase productivity and economic growth while supporting collaboration with various stakeholders such as the Council of Europe, the OECD and Global Partnership for AI working groups, and global standardisation bodies such as the ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) and the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
