Opened consultation on CMA investigation into mobile browsers and cloud gaming

On 10 June 2022, the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) opened a consultation on the market power of Apple and Google in mobile browsers and the App Store's restrictions on cloud gaming regarding the supply of online gaming services for the video game consoles sold by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Particularly, the CMA announced it plans to conduct a market investigation into Apple and Google's business practices concerning opt-out options, auto-renewal and the terms and conditions for online gaming contracts. The consultation follows a study which found that Apple and Google have an effective duopoly on mobile ecosystems. The consultation will close on 22 July 2022.
