Implementation of order on measures to ensure the technological independence and security of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation

On 31 March 2022, the order on measures to ensure the technological independence and security of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation comes into force. The order was signed by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin on 30 March 2022. The order states that customers have to refrain from acquiring, without prior approval from the federal agencies foreign, software and hardware systems for use in sectors that are classified as critical information infrastructures for Russia. Moreover, the order states that any other services that enable the functioning of foreign software are subject to this order. The second part of the order banning the use of foreign software in critical information infrastructure facilities by private and public entities will come to force on 1 January 2025.
