Russian President signs order on measures to ensure the technological independence and security of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation

On 30 March 2022, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin signed an order "on measures to ensure the technological independence and security of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation". The order states that customers have to refrain from acquiring, without prior approval from the federal agencies foreign, software and hardware systems for use in sectors that are classified as critical information infrastructures for Russia. Moreover, the order states that any other services that enable the functioning of foreign software are subject to this order. The order will come to force on 31 March 2022 and from 1 January 2025 the use of foreign software in critical information infrastructure facilities will be prohibited for private and public entities.
