Roskomnadzor blocks access to Google News due to alleged "fake news" on conflict in Ukraine

On 23 March 2022, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) blocked access to Google News, following a request by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation. Although no official statement on the blocking is available, Roskomnadzor noted to news agency Interfax that the decision to block Google News occurred due to the distribution of information on containing “unreliable, publicly significant information" on the "special military operation" in Ukraine.
