Intellectual Property Office opens consultation into Artificial Intelligence and IP: copyrights and patents

On 29 October 2021, the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) opened a consultation on Artificial Intelligence and IP. Specifically, the IPO requests that respondents comment on the issues of: copyright protection for computer generated works without a human author; potential regulation of licensing or exceptions to copyright for text and data mining; and patent protection for AI-created inventions. The consultation will close on 7 January 2022.
