Egypt: Implemented Data Protection Law

The Data Protection Law is implemented by the Egyptian Government. The Law establishes obligations for data controllers and processors, in particular breach reporting deadlines, the appointment of a representative and a Data Protection Officer in Egypt for foreign companies. Moreover, the Law introduces a licensing framework for the organisations dealing with sensitive data. The law introduces rules for the legal basis of data processing and the data subjects' rights to revoke consent to processing and to have their data rectified. The exercise of the rights can be subjected to a fee. Finally, law enforcement is delegated to the new data protection regulator, the Personal Data Protection Centre.
