Joint statement released after Counter Ransomware Initiative Meeting

From 13 to 14 October 2021, 30 countries held a virtual meeting regarding ransomware threats. The countries involved include the USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the European Union, Japan, as well as several European countries. Ransomware is encryption software that makes files unusable unless the victim pays a ransom fee. The governments underlined the need for global cooperation in the fight against these risks. Common efforts will target the abuse of financial mechanisms for laundering purposes, increase network resilience to combat incidents, as well as promote law enforcement collaboration against attackers using ransomware.
