Description

Apple ordered to enable app developers to use alternative payment methods without paying AppStore commission

On 30 August 2021, the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) released an order directed towards Apple to adjust clause 3.1 of its AppStore Review Guidelines, so that app developers would not be inhibited in their choice of payment method. Apple's current practice requires app developers to pay a commission fee between 15% and 30% for every payment in the App Store. The FAS states that Apple's practice is negatively affecting competition and is thereby violating clause 3 of Article 10 of the Law on the Protection of Competition. Apple has until 30 September 2021 to implement the required changes.
